Tambobo Bay
Appeal to all cruisers using dinghies!
(And any motor boat for that matter…)
Sea turtles are sighted on and off in Tambobo Bay. Racing through the bay with a dinghy at high speed presents a real danger to them. (see here and here and here ).
We kindly ask you to moderate your dinghy speed accordingly. Thank you for the turtles.
From endangered.org: Boat strikes are another major threat to sea turtles. Sea turtles need to come up to the surface to breathe, and that’s when fast-moving boats can hit them. Many sea turtles don’t have time to get out of the way….. The blunt-force trauma from a boat strike is usually deadly for sea turtles.
Tambobo Bay is lying at the southern tip of the island of Negros, in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines. It is part of the barangays of Bonbonon and Siit, city of Siaton.
The largest city close by is the city of Dumaguete, capital of Negros Oriental.
The bay is open to the western side of the Bohol Sea through a narrow passage.
A paved coastal road leads from the main road Dumaguete – Bayawan to the Bay.
Since 2024 there is a Ceres bus service from Dumaguete / Bayawan. Ask the bus to stop at either AB Cafe or the Viewing Deck in Palinpinon.
